My teaching job might be in trouble because they're giving up their charter to another district.
I need to find some type of federal grant to help me pay my monthly mortgage if this happens.

I would check with Sonoma County and take a look at their website that has a resource plan for small business owners.

Best of luck. Namaste-

The deck is stacked against us

I am a disabled person who wants to start a small business. I want to get off disability. I have two degrees in computer science & want to start a consulting firm. Funding is almost impossible to get right now. Banks have been bailed out, and are solvent, but aren't freeing up money for small businesses. Oh, they're loaning alright, but only to each other, at zero percent interest, so they can make more money betting on derivatives. With our money!

So, unless I want to borrow 30 million dollars, I'm not being considered. And the GOP just filibustered a small business bill (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/30/us/politics/30cong.html)that would have forced banks to free up their lending, so we're in limbo. In the meantime, all our bills are going up, food and fuel, water & electricity, going up and up, but our income is flatter that the great salt flats.

Man, it's getting almost impossible to make it in America anymore.

For helpful advice about starting a business then there is no better place to go than the Small Business Administration - SBA for short.  They have their own website and is the government department that deals with helping those that want to start a business.  They can provide you with useful materials that can help you in your plan to start a business.

Of course you have to know that you are going to have to have your business plans straight before you even attempt to get a grant for starting your business!  However if you are eager to start finding out about grant programs that may be available for you then you should start with your own state's website to see what kind of grant programs they have available - I say this because you mention that your business idea will help your local area so seeing what kind of grant programs are available in your local area would be a good first place to start.

My name is Ron, I am 50 years old, I am a retired professional firefighter and capenter. I have an Invention almost completed. I need monies to get to completion. This was a forced retirement and I am now out on disablity with a pacemaker/defibulater. If I could get this done, I would be in a position to help other people in these positions.

If you have social services organizations in your city or town check to see if you have  Catholic Charities Organization. They will assist you with your rent, mortgage, car payment, utility and food. You can also apply for emergency and long term food stamps through the Dept of Social Services not Human Services where you live. If you have children, the Social Services will help you with them also, Be prepared to wait and be patient because there are lots of people there to get assistant also...... but they will help you . Do not forget to also apply for your unemployment payments  if you have been laid off. If you are in a union they can  also help you.   Good luck

Contac the office of your Congressperson. All have exactly the same grant information, free of charge, which is exactly what all the information vendors use to get their information.

At the same time, set up a meeting with his/her staff at the local office. They may be able to give you other ideas for getting direct assistance.

need small business grant or loan

I am a first time business owner and I have found it very difficult to aquire start up capital for my business. All I need is a launch pad and the sky's the limit.  I have plenty of origninal designs and a decent fanbase of people who are interested in my products, as well as my artwork, in our region.  The problem is getting things started on a larger scale.  With only $3000.00, I could get the website designed and set up, a nice inventory, marketing funds and a larger screenprinting machine..  I've already spoke with 3 national magazines who were excited about my products and would love to see my ads in their mags, but I have to save up in order to place them.  Your help would be greatly appreciated and gladly reciprocated in due time.

I'm looking for help in getting a grant to purchase a house as well as a grant to get my graphic arts degree.  I've ordered all kinds of "grant packages", but it's too confusing for me to figure out.  I'm a 37 year old, single, self employed white female.  Can someone help narrow it down from all of the thousands of grants to a few simple ones I can apply for with that given information?  I would really appreciate it.  Thanks.
